After analysing Dod Procter's painting, "Morning", we decided to focus on the theme of 'Depression'. As the project progressed, we found our concept lacked clarity on the blog and as a group weren't fully engaged with the concept.
A second meeting with our tutor enabled us to realise that we needed to change our idea. Starting again; we decided to brainstorm new concepts and ideas, until we collectively agreed on the theme of 'Facade'. This came to mind when analysing the painting itself, where we noticed that the position of the woman's arm seemed to be expressed dramatically.
In hope of making the theme relatable, we looked into different ideas of facade before pinpointing social media as a source of facade. The research we devised mainly looked into the effects of social media and how the degenerate culture is changing art. This research helped us realise where we wanted to go to further our video concept.
On shoot, the location we used had suitable lighting and we were able to make an effective use of the space available to us. We were successful in obtaining five people's responses to our project. In the post-production process, only two of the recordings were used as the other actors didn't convey the desired reaction we were looking for. In the last editing session, we referenced closely to the root of our research in utilising the structure of 'Fine Bros' videos as a source of inspiration. During the edit, we attempted to create a modern, and current visual that related to the audience through the actions of the participants and the camera screen grabs.
In spite of the setback in our project, we managed to successfully create a media piece that exposes the ongoing dependancy people have for creating a perfect persona of themselves.
